Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is starting to sound like quite the undertaking, as another Japanese studio has revealed that it's working on the game alongside Square Enix. Orca is a developer that also helped out with Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest XI S, and it's currently hiring all kinds of artists for Dragon Quest XII.
If you missed the news, it was announced last week that fellow Japanese studio HexaDrive is collaborating on the next Dragon Quest as well. Square Enix is really stocking up for this one, isn't it?
Again, though, it's becoming abundantly clear that Dragon Quest XII isn't going to release anytime soon. It's obviously a long, long way off, but given the series' quality over the years, we're happy to wait — although if we're still writing about developers hiring for the project in 2023, we might regret those words.

I know a lot of people are nervous about this game and I also worry that they may stray too far from what makes Dragon Quest good, but I'm excited to see what this ends up being. It seems like it's a big project and after the international success of DQXI, it looks like they're allocating all the resources they need to it.
Perhaps the only franchise where I'd be more than content with more of the same without reinventing the wheel.
I just started Dragon Quest XI for the first time last weekend, and I'm loving it. So they can take their sweet time and make something wonderful 🙂
Its in good hands
Dragon Quest XI is one of the best RPGs on the PS4. This is good news.
